Empowering Ekona Youth (EEY) from inception has as its primordial intent to impact in community and members in particular. This is done through different subcategories.
EEY Out Reach Programs
As a community, EEY led by its very inspired and devoted executives strives daily to ensure that its intent is not just inscribed but equally felt and realized. In these current times with the devastating precarious standard of living and situations that surrounds our people, community, and neighboring community, what is most needed now is the so much desired human touch. The touch of hope inspires and brings out the best in others. EEY in her little way engages in these activities giving hope and building a more humanly sustainable society.
EEY scheduled visits to IDPs, Orphanages, and Correctional/ Rehabilitation Centers.
In achieving its goals, the executives of EEY scheduled visits to Buea Central Prison, Orphanage, and the camps Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). In the course of the ongoing crisis in Cameroon, most of our community inhabitants were gravely affected. Such incidents have damaging and traumatic long-term effects on those affected. As a community-based organization, we intend to mild the effects of such affected persons. In that, EEY visited the Buea Central prison in February 2021 where some of the Ekona Youths are currently being incarcerated to offer them hope and pave a recovery path for all the detainees before they are reintroduced into society. In the same line, the high rate of insecurity caused many to flee their homes into the bushes and camps for safety. This set of persons were equally visited and we shared the little we had given them hope for the future.
EEY devotion to its Members and Community
The well-being of our members is key. without a healthy mind in a healthy body, the functionality of EEY just like any other organization is questionable. In promoting love and unity, EEY executives follow the tailored guidelines spelling out clearly how a member is attended to. In cases where there is no provision spelled out by the constitution, we have seen our members supporting ideas of supports and fund drives organized by EEY and its members promoting the spirit of solidarity and the notion of charitable justice to give our members a smiling face while in a sickbed. Similar gestures and execution of clauses therein are being discharged in cases of condolences and joyous events as defined. In this way, EEY expresses her deepest sympathy and offers our collective support as will be attested by our members.
EEY Education/ Sensitization Program
A healthy society is a prerogative to a brighter future. EEY frequently organizes educational programs ranging from personal hygiene and a healthy approach to our day-to-day living. This is done both virtually via our
online platforms and physically in the Ekona community. Our topics embrace all
genders and all ages. We teach our members and the Ekona population approaches to handling environmental plagues, pandemics, quick tips on oral care. Most recent of which is the COVID-19 outbreak in which sensitization programs have been organized in Ekona and its environs by distributing
free masks, Installation of potable treated water reservoirs for handwashing at strategic points in Ekona. Feminine Hygiene is equally a major area of interest. EEY organizes campaigns in which she distributed sanitary pads to some women and young girls after detailed seminars on female health were conducted by EEY.
